How to Use Fixd

Fixd states your car is talking. Start listening.

This simple device is aimed at the casual driver – the non-mechanic type – that wants to better understand and maintain their vehicles. And you’ll also find top mechanics installing Fixd on their vehicles, too.

It’s about better understanding those pesky check engine lights that no one can decipher.

There’s a lot of information you can pull from your vehicle’s onboard computer diagnostics system, but if you can’t tap into the system, you’re left in the dark. Fixd helps you break through this darkness and understand what your car is trying to tell you.

But it gets even better.

This technology is easy to install, and you have the mechanical ability right now to install it yourself. It’s a fast and easy install – we’ll even walk you through it.

How to Install Fixd

Fixd is truly plug-and-play – there’s not much fiddling with your car to get this product to work. You’ll have a harder time finding the unit in stock than you will actually installing the unit. A few things to keep in mind before moving forward are:

  • Fixd will only work on vehicles sold in the US since 1996.
  • Fixd doesn’t work on diesel vehicles but it does work on gasoline and hybrid vehicles.

If your vehicle falls into this criteria, than you’ll be ready to install the unit and get started with your diagnostics system.

There’s three main spots where the unit may be installed, and the location will vary depending on your automobile. In general, you’ll find that the location where the Fixd sensor plugs into includes:

  1. Left of the steering wheel under the dash.
  2. Right of the steering wheel under the dash.
  3. Left of the glove box also under the dash in the passenger seat.

You’ll want to start looking for the proper area where the sensor will plug into. Once you find the connector, you’ll simply plug the Fixd device into the connector. This seems like a difficult task, but it’s as easy as plugging a power cord into an electrical socket.

Keep in mind that all vehicles sold in the US after 1996 will have this port, so it’s a matter of finding it.

This is the same port that mechanics will plug into to be able to read your diagnostic codes. You’ll want to make sure that the sensor is plugged into the unit tightly allowing for no space. You’ll be able to leave your device in place at all times, so it’s a very simple install that will take the right person less than a minute to install.

Setting Up Fixd Properly

If you’ve successfully plugged the device into your automobile, you’re well on your way to using Fixd . You’ll now need to install the app on your phone so that you’re able to properly use Fixd and all of the features that the unit has to offer.

Keep in mind that you can download the app at two official locations:

  1. App Store (iOS)
  2. Play Store (Android)

It’s possible to find the app on third-party websites, but never trust these sources. If you go to the official pages, you’ll be sure that the app your downloading is the latest and greatest, and you won’t have to worry about the app being altered in any malicious way.

Once the app is installed, you’ll want to start your vehicle, launch the app and wait for the unit to connect.

If you don’t have a connection, turn the vehicle off and make sure that the device is properly plugged into the port. You’ll then want to repeat the process above. If you still have no luck, you’ll want to contact the support team.

Your unit is under a one-year warranty, so you’ll receive a new unit for free should yours be defective.

Once connected, you can move on to the fun part – using your device.

How to Use Fixd

Fixd is currently only able to read check engine light codes (read my complete Fixd Review here), but the company is working on additional features for the future.

You’ll want to start using your device by loading up your app.

From your app, you’ll be able to:

  • View check engine light notifications
  • Learn more about problem details
  • Receive maintenance reminders
  • Monitor multi-vehicles

Obviously, you’ll use this device a lot. When the check engine light comes on, you can use Fixd to help you decipher the error code and make the appropriate repairs. And even if you don’t plan on making your own repairs, Fixd will save you money from mechanics that often overcharge for their service.

When the engine light comes on for error code P0195 you’ll know that this is a code indicating:

  • Engine oil temperature issues
  • The issue may cause engine overheating

The great thing is that vital codes are in red while other codes have different colors. Yellow, for example, may be used for a failed O2 sensor. This is an indicator of the severity of the problem and since the vehicle may drive erratically but won’t be severely damaged with a failed O2 sensor, yellow is the color given for the issue.

When you have these codes and information provided to you, you’ll then be able to:

  1. Correct the issue yourself through the diagnosing information provided to you through Fixd.
  2. Bring the vehicle to a mechanic knowing of the issue and ensuring the mechanic is honest and fair.

In truth, there’s little that you can’t do when you know the exact problem with your auto. You’ll be armed with the most important thing of all – knowledge. This knowledge allows you to make the necessary repairs to your vehicle while saving money in the process.

It’s the perfect solution for the car owner that doesn’t mind getting a little grease on their hands and working on their own vehicle.

And since it’s so easy to install and the app allows for single touch information to be displayed, it only makes sense to arm yourself with the information your car is trying to tell you. The easy setup and installation makes using Fixd a breeze.
